Choosing a Senior School Pathway

<h3>Three doors into Senior School</h3><p>At the end of Grade 9 you will choose one of three Senior School <strong>pathways</strong>. A pathway is simply a planned group of subjects that points you toward a family of careers. The three are <strong>Arts and Sports Science</strong>, <strong>Social Sciences</strong>, and <strong>STEM</strong> (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).</p><p>No pathway is better than another. The best pathway is the one that matches <em>you</em> &mdash; your interests, your talents, the subjects you perform well in, and the kind of work that excites you. To choose wisely, consider:</p><ul><li><strong>Your interests</strong> &mdash; what do you enjoy doing even when no one is forcing you?</li><li><strong>Your abilities and grades</strong> &mdash; where do your marks and skills already point?</li><li><strong>Your talents</strong> &mdash; sport, art, leadership, fixing things, helping people.</li><li><strong>Career goals</strong> &mdash; the job you dream of and what it demands.</li><li><strong>Support systems</strong> &mdash; teachers, parents, mentors and guidance counsellors who can advise you.</li></ul><p>Choosing early and thoughtfully helps you pick the right subjects, stay motivated and avoid costly changes later.</p><div class="callout"><strong>Kenyan context:</strong> A learner in Kisumu who loves repairing boda boda engines and scores well in mathematics might lean toward STEM and aim to become a mechanical engineer. A classmate who shines in debate club and history may choose Social Sciences and dream of becoming a lawyer or a county administrator.</div>
