[0:00] Hindu festivals fill the year with colour, light and shared joy. Each festival carries a deep meaning beyond the celebration.
[0:50] Diwali, the Festival of Lights, celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Families light rows of diyas and share sweets.
[1:45] Diwali also recalls the return of Rama after his victory, and is a time for cleaning homes, new clothes, and honouring Lakshmi for well-being.
[2:35] Holi, the Festival of Colours, welcomes spring and celebrates friendship and forgiveness, as people playfully throw bright coloured powders.
[3:25] Navratri honours the goddess in her many forms over nine nights, with dance, devotion and fasting for many worshippers.
[4:10] Remember: festivals are not only fun. They teach values of light, renewal, forgiveness and unity, and bring families and communities together.
