[0:00] Beyond the Vedas, Hindus treasure two great epics: the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. These long stories teach values through unforgettable characters. [0:55] The Ramayana tells of Prince Rama, his wife Sita and the devoted Hanuman. Rama keeps his promises and protects the good, even at great personal cost. [1:50] The Mahabharata is an enormous epic about a struggle between two families, the Pandavas and the Kauravas, raising deep questions about right and wrong. [2:45] Inside the Mahabharata is the Bhagavad Gita. Here the warrior Arjuna is troubled, and Krishna advises him to do his duty selflessly, without being ruled by selfish desire for reward. [3:40] The Gita's message of doing your duty with a calm, focused mind speaks to everyone, from a soldier to a student facing a hard task. [4:30] Remember: the Ramayana models loyalty and righteousness, while the Bhagavad Gita teaches selfless action and devotion.
