[0:00] A Hadith is a report of what the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said, did or approved.
[0:40] Hadith is the second source of guidance in Islam after the Quran, and it explains how to put the Quran into practice.
[1:25] Each Hadith has two parts: the sanad, which is the chain of people who passed it on, and the matn, which is the actual text or message.
[2:15] Scholars such as Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim travelled far and wide, carefully checking the honesty and memory of each narrator before accepting a report.
[3:05] Through this careful checking, Hadith are classified as sahih meaning sound, hasan meaning good, or daif meaning weak, so that believers can rely on authentic guidance.
