<h3>Sexuality as a Responsible Gift</h3><p>Christian Religious Education teaches about <strong>human sexuality</strong> respectfully and honestly, because it is part of God's good creation. The body and one's sexuality are seen as a <strong>gift from God</strong>, to be treated with <strong>dignity</strong> and self-respect rather than misused.</p><p><strong>Responsible living</strong> means making wise and mature choices, respecting oneself and others, and avoiding behaviour that brings harm. Christian teaching encourages young people to value <strong>self-control</strong>, modesty, and respect in male-female relationships, and to understand that sexual intimacy is intended for the right time and the right context within marriage.</p><p><strong>Irresponsible sexual behaviour</strong> can carry serious consequences. These include <strong>sexually transmitted infections (STIs)</strong> such as HIV, which leads to AIDS, as well as early pregnancy, interrupted education, broken relationships, and emotional stress. Knowing these consequences helps young people make informed, healthy choices.</p><p>No young person should face these questions alone. Trusted <strong>sources of guidance</strong>, including responsible parents and guardians, teachers, religious leaders, and health workers, can offer support, accurate information, and encouragement.</p><div class="callout"><strong>Kenyan context:</strong> Many Kenyan schools have guidance and counselling teachers, and county health facilities and youth-friendly centres offer confidential advice. A Grade 9 learner who chooses to focus on studies, respects boundaries, and talks to a trusted adult when confused is making responsible choices that protect their future and dignity.</div>
