[0:00] In this lesson we discover how the Bible came to be the book Christians read today.
[0:40] The Bible is not one single book written at once. It is a library of many books, written by many authors over a very long period of time.
[1:25] The Old Testament was first written mostly in Hebrew. It contains the law, history, poetry, and the messages of the prophets of Israel.
[2:10] The New Testament was written in Greek after the time of Jesus. It contains the four Gospels, the Acts, the letters, and Revelation.
[2:55] Over the centuries, church leaders recognised which books carried genuine authority. This agreed list of accepted books is called the canon.
[3:40] The Bible has since been translated into many languages, including Kiswahili and other Kenyan languages, so that everyone can read it.
