[0:00] The triple jump is an athletics event made of four phases: approach, take-off, flight and landing. [0:45] During the approach the athlete sprints to build speed, then plants one foot on the take-off board. [1:25] The flight has three parts in order: the hop landing on the same foot, the step onto the other foot, and the jump into the sand pit. [2:10] Long-distance races test endurance over distances like 5,000 metres, 10,000 metres, the half marathon and the marathon. [2:50] Good pacing, rhythmic breathing, an efficient foot strike and proper hydration help a runner finish strong.
