[0:00] Rhythm is the pattern of long and short sounds and silences that moves music forward in time.
[0:40] In 4/4 time there are four beats in each bar; a semibreve lasts four beats, a minim two, and a crotchet one.
[1:25] A quaver lasts half a beat, so two quavers fit into one beat — count them as one-and, two-and.
[2:05] A dot after a note adds half of its value, so a dotted minim of two beats becomes three beats.
[2:50] Rests are silences with the same values as notes, so a crotchet rest is one silent beat.
