[0:00] Every plate of food starts on a farm. Producing a crop follows clear stages from preparing land to harvesting. [0:40] First we prepare the land by clearing, ploughing and harrowing to make a fine, soft seedbed. [1:20] Then we plant at the right spacing and depth, using clean, certified seed or healthy seedlings. [2:05] During growth we weed, water, control pests and feed the soil. Organic farmers use compost and manure instead of factory fertilisers. [2:50] Organic gardening builds living soil, avoids harmful chemicals, and produces safe, healthy vegetables for the family and market. [3:30] Finally we harvest at the right maturity, then handle the produce carefully to keep it fresh.
