[0:00] A wave is a disturbance that carries energy from one place to another without carrying matter along with it.
[0:45] In a transverse wave the particles move up and down, at right angles to the direction the wave travels, like ripples on water.
[1:35] In a longitudinal wave the particles move back and forth in the same direction the wave travels, like sound moving through air.
[2:25] Important measurements are the wavelength, the frequency in hertz, the amplitude, and the speed of the wave.
[3:15] These are linked by the wave equation: speed equals frequency multiplied by wavelength.
