[0:00] A curved mirror is part of a hollow sphere. If the reflecting surface curves inward it is concave; if it bulges outward it is convex.
[0:50] A concave mirror brings parallel light rays together to a point, so it is called a converging mirror.
[1:40] A convex mirror spreads parallel rays apart, so it is called a diverging mirror and always forms a small, upright image.
[2:30] Key parts include the pole, the centre of curvature, the principal focus and the focal length, which is the distance from the pole to the focus.
[3:20] Concave mirrors are used in torches and shaving mirrors, while convex mirrors widen the view in vehicle side mirrors and shop security mirrors.
