[0:00] An ecosystem is a community of living organisms interacting with each other and with their non-living surroundings.
[0:45] Energy enters through producers, mostly green plants, which trap sunlight. It then passes to herbivores and on to carnivores.
[1:35] A food chain shows one path of energy. A food web is many food chains linked together, showing the real complexity of nature.
[2:25] Decomposers such as bacteria and fungi break down dead matter, returning nutrients to the soil for plants to reuse.
[3:15] Human actions like deforestation, pollution and over-population damage ecosystems, but conservation and tree planting can reverse the harm.
