[0:00] The Cartesian plane is formed by a horizontal x axis and a vertical y axis meeting at the origin. [0:40] Every point has coordinates written as x first then y, inside brackets. [1:25] To find the distance between two points we use Pythagoras on the horizontal and vertical gaps. [2:10] The midpoint of a segment is the average of the x values and the average of the y values. [2:55] These ideas help map locations, plan routes, and read the coordinates on a screen or a map.
