[0:00] Welcome. Today we learn how to listen well and turn what we hear into useful notes. Good listening is a skill you can practise like football or singing.
[0:35] There are three steps: first, settle and pay full attention; second, catch the main idea; third, jot down only the key words, not every sentence.
[1:20] Imagine the head teacher announcing a class trip to Hell's Gate National Park. Listen for who, what, when, where and how much, and write those five things down.
[2:10] Use short forms to write fast: 'w/' for with, an arrow for 'leads to', and abbreviations like 'KES' for the cost. Your notes are for you, so keep them quick and clear.
[3:00] After listening, read your notes back and fill any gaps from memory while it is still fresh. Practise this in every lesson and your understanding will grow strong.
